Our Mission
Mission Statement
Coltsville Heritage Partnership, Inc. (CHP) was formed to lessen the burdens of government by working in partnership with the National Park Service and others. Our mission is to work in collaboration with the National Park Service to ensure the protection and historical heritage of the Coltsville district through research, preservation, advocacy, and public education.
-
Coltsville Heritage Partnership was incorporated in 2015 by a group of volunteers who advocated for the authorizing legislation.
-
There are three major conditions in the authorizing legislation for the establishment of Coltsville National Historical Park. As of today, two of three have been met, and the third is underway.
-
Once the conditions for establishment have been met, work can begin to open the Coltsville. A visitor’s center, guided tours, and park programming will be led by our community volunteers. In addition, multiple buildings within the park grounds need renovating and structural improvements.
“I am proud of the efforts of the community I represent. For more than a decade, community, historic, cultural, and literary organizations along with not-for-profits and for-profits have persisted in assuring the legacy of Samuel and Elizabeth Colt would become a national historic destination here in Hartford, Connecticut on the banks of a national historic river.”
— John Larson, United States Representative from Connecticut
“This will be a great step for Connecticut and for Hartford. It will drive economic growth through a combination of tourism, housing development, and commerce.”
— Richard Blumenthal, United States Senator from Connecticut
“In a city with some of the most beautiful parks in the country, the Coltsville National Historical Park is a true landmark. We’re proud to work with so many partners locally and nationally, to invest in, improve it for our residents, and make it a destination for visitors.”
— Luke Bronin, Mayor, City of Hartford, Connecticut
